Curriculum and Learning Experiences

We realize that each child is unique. Just as no two children are alike, similarly, there are no two children who learn exactly alike! Our objective is to ensure that all children, regardless of how they learn, receive the opportunity to become skilled in math and language, without experiencing frustration.

Learning styles and learning modalities are often spoken of interchangeably. Modalities refer to how we use our senses in the learning process. The four modalities are: visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), kinesthetic (moving), and tactile (touching). Each child may use one or more of these modalities. However, if only one modality is being taught and it does not match the way a child learns, that child will fall behind, ultimately feeling inadequate.

Touch Math and Zoo-Phonics encompasses all of the four learning modalities, enabling children to retain valuable information . Additionally, if your child is ahead of what is being taught, or not quite ready for what is being taught, the curriculum can easily be tailored to the child's specific learning needs. This ensures no child is left behind academically.

Science, Music & Movement, and Messy Art are woven into our daily schedules, providing additional opportunities for learning. This also provides an outlet for children to creatively express themselves.

Physical activity is important too! Our Pebbles’ staff is committed to ensuring your children receive plenty of fresh air and sunshine and have many opportunities to run, jump and play! When the weather is not “outside- friendly,” they get plenty of exercise playing on our obstacle course bounce house!

Pebbles Preschool & Kindergarten is steadfast in our approach to bringing God and Jesus into the classroom.

“ . . . These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

Each day we will introduce spiritual truths and moral values through the simple reading of Bible stories. In addition, we strive to include conversations about God into as much of our day as possible. Praying with, and for, our Pebbles’ children takes place often throughout their day. We want children to feel comfortable and confident in prayer, as well as knowledgeable in the leadership role God has in their lives.

Classroom Environment & Learning Centers

Our classroom environments are set up for choices.  Materials in learning centers are selected and arranged to promote healthy growth and development, pretense and creativity, foster involvement, independence, decision making, and responsibility.  Children are given experiences and extended opportunities to explore by selecting and using, and engaging in the materials offered at each center.

The State of Nevada Board for Child Care recently approved regulations stating that child care facilities must develop a written assessment plan for every child enrolled in their care, must assess a child's development within three months of enrollment, and continue to assess the child's development three times throughout the year (September, January and May).

In order to comply with the State of Nevada regulations, Pebbles Preschool and Kindergarten has adopted the AGES and STAGES (ASQ-3) Questionnaires as our screening tool.  The ASQ's will be administered in September and in May.  The results of the screening will be communicated to parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences.  These results will also help the teachers to tailor the program and activities to the needs of the children in the classroom.
